Happy New Year and Helloooo Hummus!
Where to begin with this creamy dip? I mean seriously, there are so many options. Hummus with pita, hummus with crackers, hummus with SOOO many different veggie options, hummus on a sandwich…Really now, where does the list stop? The New Years party may be over but when it comes to this smooth and creamy hummus the party in your mouth can keep on going.
And the best part (other than eating it of course), is that it is ridiculously easy to make. Yes, I suppose you could pick up a tub of it at the grocery store (which I admit I do from time to time) but there is truly some deep satisfaction to be had when you can whip up a bowl of hummus in less than 20 minutes on your own and you know exactly what is going into it.
Speaking of what’s in hummus, chickpeas which take front and center stage are packed with protein, fiber and the good-for-you type of carbs. And who doesn’t like that?! Plus, you can’t ignore the awesome health benefits found in tahini, garlic and olive oil. I’m telling you, this is good stuff.
Of course, we all have to splurge once in a while right? That’s where the sour cream comes in. That little extra ingredient just gives the hummus an extra dose of creamy smoothness and tastiness. Of course, if you are concerned about the calories from the sour cream, you could omit it (or sub greek yogurt!) and it would still be tasty.
BUT with the sour cream…Mmmmmm….It’s well worth postponing that New Years resolution a day or two…or maybe just doing some extra jumping jacks and lunges instead.
An easy and delicious hummus recipe that’s smooth and creamy.
- Place all ingredients in a blender or food processor.
- Blend or puree until very smooth. While the hummus is processing, you can add in a little bit more olive oil to help achieve a super creamy texture.
- Serve with pita, crackers, chips, veggies, or sandwiches. Enjoy!
This hummus is very adaptable to your taste preferences. Like it really garlicky? Add a second clove of garlic! Enjoy the slightly tart intensity of sun-dried tomatoes? Add them in! You could also sub greek yogurt for the sour cream if you are looking for a lower fat/lower caloric option as well.
